DIY Up-Cycled Sweater Pals

November 15, 2012 by Emily

Right now I’m purging my closet of all the clothes that will never fit me, aren’t flattering or will never come back in style… and I will be the first to admit that usually I hold onto clothes well past their prime, so my purge pile is huge. While most of this will be going into charity, there are some items I just can’t bear to part with because even though they may be worn out or I look awful in them, they still hold a lot of sentimental value.

Instead of holding onto lumpy ill fitting sweaters and having them take up valuable real estate in my closet I decided to give my old duds new life and turn them into little stuffed pals!

What you’ll need :

Any cozy item of clothing that you no longer want in your closet
Sweater Pal Pattern
Buttons for eyes

Print and cut out the Pal Pattern and place on your chosen fabric. Cut out all the fabric pieces, careful….knit sweaters will unravel really easily so be gentle with the edges.

Sew the ear insets, tummy fabric and button eyes onto one of the body pieces (I used a modified blanket stitch because I liked the way it looks, but if you like things a little more polished machine stitching works just as well) Once all the details are on the front of the body, place the front and back body pieces right sides together and sew together leaving an inch or so open for stuffing.

Stuff with polyfill and close the opening with a running stitch, now enjoy your new buddy!
