I’m a huge fan of nice smelling dresser drawers. I mean, who isn’t right? Sachets are an excellent way to keep your clothes smelling wonderful. For those who aren’t sure, a sachet is a small bag scented with whatever scent you choose. My favorites are lavender and cedar. Some of the sachets you can purchase in stores are pretty expensive and the smell doesn’t even last that long. Since I already had the felt lying around, I was able to make these sachets for under $5 bucks! I thought instead of a boring old square, we could make them into tiny articles of clothing. It’s a quick and easy craft that would make a sweet gift as well!
For this DIY you will need:
Card stock for your template
Cedar Shavings (This is what I used but you could use lavender or any other type of bud)
A small funnel, I made mine out of paper
To make the underpants you will want to use your card stock to create a template. (I drew an egg shape and then just cut off the top!) Pin two pieces of felt together, I chose white for my background color, and cut out your template. You will now have 2 pieces of the underwear, set one aside. Then use a contrasting color and cut out your 3 pieces of edging, 1 for the waistband and 2 for the “leg holes”. You’ll want to sew on the edging before you sew the two underwear pieces together, you don’t want to be able to see all your stitching on the back. Once the edging is sewn on, then sew your front piece to your back piece. I chose to hand sew mine because I like the way it looks but feel free to use a sewing machine. Sew all the way around leaving a hole at the top for the cedar to be poured inside. Curl a small piece of paper around itself to create a funnel and pour in your cedar. I didn’t measure out the cedar, I poured enough to fill the sachet and leave room to sew the hole closed. Hand sew the hole at the top and your all finished! Wasn’t that easy??
I also made a tiny sock using the same method. I think it’s cute to have a sachet of a sock in my sock drawer, because I’m a dork. You could make any article of clothing you want. Jeans, a hoodie, or a little dress would also be super cute. Throw em in a drawer or sew a string on the back and hang them in your closet! Happy crafting!
